Honor Betty White through an animal fundraiser in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (KLFY) – In honor of the late Betty White, the Lafayette Animal Shelter is partnering with a local non-profit organization to raise funds for animals.

The director of the nonprofit said Betty White is one of the world’s leading animal rights activists and that she is raising funds in honor of her upcoming 100th birthday.

They call it the “Thank You for Being a Friend” fundraiser.

“It’s something we’ve been thinking about for the last few days, about doing a fundraiser on behalf of Betty White, who we all know was an avid animal lover. Her birthday and celebration is approaching January 17, ”said Patty Meehan, director of the nonprofit Friends of the Lafayette Animal Shelter.

Betty White, who died just weeks before her 100th birthday, inspired fundraising with her passion for helping animals.

The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Friends of Lafayette Animal Shelter, or FLASH, are teaming up for this charitable event.

Meehan says the money raised will be used to purchase items for the animals at the shelter and to create community initiative programs.

“We have a brand new refuge here in Lafayette. It’s amazing. This is the state of the art, but the figures are still too high. We’ve come a long way though, I’ll tell you, since the days when the shelter killed a lot of animals. It has completely changed, ”she said.

She says donations from the “Thank You for Being a Friend” fundraiser will also help provide food, vaccines and supplies for the animals.

“Any donation that someone gives to us, but certainly during this fundraiser, will go directly to helping the animals in the Lafayette community,” added Meehan.
